Sorna Khakzad

Doctoral Rsearcher -  Underwater Cultural Heritage

Sorna Khakzad born in Iran (1978), graduated with master of architecture-engineering from Azad University of Tehran (2004), followed the advanced study in Conservation of Monuments and Historic Sites with a focus on Underwater Cultural Heritage at the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation (RLICC), K.U.Leuven, Belgium and with the support from Flemish Heritage Institute (VIOE), Belgium (2006-08). Since 2008 she is a PhD student at RLICC, K.U.Leuven. Her research is dealing with conservation and management of underwater cultural heritage. She has worked as architect and cultural heritage specialist in national and international projects in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Italy, England, Turkey and Belgium. She has several publications and online blogs about her experiences, is a Think Tank member of SPLASH project, and received research awards from UNESCO-VOCATION Patrimoine (France) and the World Learning Center (USA).
